ANSWERS:

1) Each cat's nose print is as unique as a human fingerprint. So when they plot to take over the world, we need to start taking nose prints and putting them in a database!

2) Cats may sleep 13-14 hours a day; they almost never include nighttime hours in this.

3) No one really knows why cats purr. There are many theories: cats purr when they're happy, when they're not happy, to help them heal, to lull their humans into a false sense of security so they can pounce on them unexpectedly.

4) Cats have scent glands in their cheeks, and they rub against you to mark you as theirs.

5) House cats are crepuscular; they like dawn and dusk for hunting and most other activities, and they sleep in the daytime.

6) Polydactyly is a congenital physical anomaly in which the cat is born with extra toes on one or more paws.

7) A group of cats is called a "clowder" or a "glaring".

8) Cats can absolutely NOT taste sweetness; they do not have the taste receptor for the taste of sweet things.

9) Cats have three eyelids: an upper, a lower, and one called a nictitating membrane that functions as the lymph node of the eye, trapping unwanted dirt and dust, protecting the cornea. In other words, it acts like a "windshield wiper blade", by removing dirt from the surface of the cornea and redistributing tears.

10) Many think cats "knead" or "make biscuits" on you and on other cats as a residual behavior from kittenhood. Kittens knead around the mother's teat to stimulate milk flow.

SO, HOW MANY DID YOU GET RIGHT? Fun facts about cats are also really interesting, because most of the answer to their behavior are mere theories, not actual facts. Cats are truly inscrutable.
